Maria Jose is an Associate Director of the firm since 2022 in the Intellectual Property department of Lloreda Camacho & Co.
She has more than 27 years of professional experience holding important public management positions, as well as in private practice in legal services and consulting in commercial law, advice, litigation, promotion and protection of industrial property.
María José earned a law degree from Universidad Sergio Arboleda, a graduate degree in Commercial and Financial Law from the same University and a second graduate degree in Industrial Property, Copyright and New Technologies from Universidad Externado de Colombia.
Her professional experience has been consolidating with a proactive attitude, leading work teams to achieve important decisions, advances and implementations, including the implementation for Colombia of the Madrid Protocol for the international registration of trademarks, the protection process for more than 15 Denominations of Origin Colombian companies and important regulatory advances in terms of trademarks and patents. In private practice, she has consolidated as a legal advisor with substantial experience in industrial property, for nearly 10 years.
In the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce, she held the positions of director of Distinctive Signs, being responsible for the implementation for Colombia of substantial developments and advances in trademark matters such as: the Trademark Law Treaty (TLT), the Madrid Protocol for the Registration Trademark International and the implementation of the Industrial Property System - SIPI for the area of Distinctive Signs.
María José was the director of Consumer Protection Investigations, being responsible for directing and deciding transcendental administrative investigations for violation of Consumer Protection regulations and taking immediate and timely administrative measures in matters of tourism, public shows (ticket office case) and construction companies. Additionally, she assumed functions as director of New Creations -Patents-, a position in which she was responsible for the administrative reorganization of the Directorate, the design and implementation of artificial intelligence tools for the classification of patents and promoted the necessary regulatory modifications for the System of Patents on issues related to divisional and patentability exams.
In February 2020, she assumed her functions as Delegate Superintendent for Industrial Property, a position in which, as the highest authority of Industrial Property in the country, highlighting as some of her main achievements for the Industrial Property system in Colombia the issuance of the regulations that regulate the registration of trademarks of business groups, the regime of the Country Brand and Industrial Designs.
She is a professor of the Specialization in Intellectual Property at the Sergio Arboleda University and a frequent guest at different national and international academic and business forums.
